Efforts to complete the North-South Expressway project ahead of schedule
On August 18, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh launched the peak period of “500 days and nights competing to complete 3,000 km of expressway”. Investors of 3 component projects of the North-South Expressway Construction Project in the 2021-2025 period passing through the province have proposed many construction plans to speed up progress, basically meeting requirements and ready to “finish” 6 months ahead of schedule.
Across the ceremony, 3 shifts 4 shifts
During the recent National Day celebrations on September 2, at the construction sites of the North-South Expressway construction project, phase 2021 – 2025 passing through the province (abbreviated as the Project), the working atmosphere was still urgent and exciting.
At the bridge project across the Con River (Tay Son district), under the scorching sun, 300 workers from the Traffic Construction Corporation 8 – Joint Stock Company (Cienco 8) divided into 3 construction teams working diligently.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Luan, Commander of Cienco 8, shared: We are implementing the 12-XL package of the Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon component project with 4 bridges, of which the longest bridge is the Con River bridge with 19 spans, total length of 760 m, which was completely closed at the end of August. We have completed the K98 roadbed, crushed stone grading 60%, CTB (cement reinforced crushed stone) paving 1 km; striving to complete the asphalt paving by the end of September and complete the required schedule.

At the An Lao bridge project (through An My commune, Hoai An district), Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, 50 years old, from Thanh Hoa, a level 7/7 welder with more than 25 years of experience in the profession, confided: During this time, we worked throughout the holidays, divided into 3 shifts of 4 teams working continuously, speeding up the progress. We encouraged each other to complete the task, ensuring the progress set by Truong Son Construction Corporation.
Along the route of the component projects: Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon – Chi Thanh, hundreds of construction teams and thousands of equipment are closely following the project, trying to complete each small stage for the big goal of “completing 3,000 km of expressway”. The working atmosphere at the construction site is bustling in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister: “If it is urgent, then it will be even more urgent”.

The Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon component project includes 2 packages, package 11-XL is constructed by Truong Son Construction Corporation; package 12-XL is constructed by a consortium of contractors: Son Hai Group LLC, Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company, Cienco 8, Truong Thinh Group Joint Stock Company, and 471 Joint Stock Company.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Director of Project Management Board 85, Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon Component Project, said: Currently, contractors along the route have mobilized to deploy over 100 construction sites, nearly 1,000 pieces of equipment, machinery and over 1,500 engineers, workers…; many main items of the project have been completed. By the end of August 2024, the cumulative output reached over 3,800 billion VND, reaching 49.72 contracts, 0.1% faster than the schedule.
Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Commander of Package 11-XL, Truong Son Construction Corporation, said: “We always remind each other of the slogan “Eat quickly, sleep urgently”. We have completed over 82% of the roadbed construction work, determined to open all 14 bridges by September 30, and complete all culverts on the route to ensure the set progress requirements.
To support contractors during the 500-day and night competition peak, the Provincial People’s Committee strives to remove difficulties and obstacles in site clearance, relocation of technical infrastructure, and supply of construction materials to speed up project implementation progress.
Thanks to that, some construction items have exceeded the schedule. For example, the 22 km section from Km 23+00 – Km 45+400, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, in charge of Package XL12, Son Hai Group Company Limited, happily commented: Currently, we mobilized 5 construction teams with hundreds of workers working continuously in 3 shifts and 4 teams. The unit has paved more than 13 km. We are striving to bring our package to the finish line ahead of schedule.
Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon component project, the largest project among 12 North – South expressway component projects in the East phase 2021 – 2025, package XL03 is undertaken by Deo Ca Group with the highlight of building a 3.2 km long road tunnel, between the two provinces of Quang Ngai – Binh Dinh. This is considered a decisive item for the completion progress of the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon component project.
Mr. Bui Hong Dang, Director of the Tunnel Command Board of Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company, affirmed: We are working hard day and night with many solutions to shorten the construction time and increase the structural safety. Currently, the left tunnel has been dug 1,500 m, the right tunnel has been dug 1,619 m. The tunnel is expected to be dug and opened in March 2025, about 8 months ahead of the contract schedule, to work with other units and open the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon expressway to traffic in December 2025, nearly 6 months ahead of the general schedule.
